General Research Soldering, cryogen handling, apparatus design (and some machining skill), heat transfer design, cryostat design, high magnetic field experience, and high frequency experience.

Grant Development

1)DURIP-AFOSR "Acquisition of instrumentation for a near-field microwave scanning/magnetic resonance microscope", Fall 2001, Brooks, et al.

2)In House Research Proposal (IHRP) "Spatially resolved EMR studies of physical, chemical, and biological spin structures in high magnetic fields", Summer 2002, Brooks, et al.

3)NSF - Proposal 0230231 "Chemistry facility for high frequency EMR", Summer 2002, Brunel, et al.

Technology Innovations

1)Spatially resolved near field EMR microscope. Worked with a summer undergraduate intern to accomplish two goals. The first was to develop a surface-scanning probe with micrometer resolution using cavity ESR techniques. The second goal was to perform an ESR measurement outside the cavity on the near field tip, and proved successful.

2)Noninvasive methods of examining shipping container contents. Performed preliminary investigation at CSX shipping company to determine response of container to electromagnetic resonance. Determined that both changes in content positions and human movement respond well to resonant techniques. Patent Pending.
